The Art of Nesting.

Carmine’s River Lodge is composed of three lagoon-facing villas, designed for privacy, calm, and a close relationship with the landscape. Contemporary forms are softened by Zambian craftsmanship, with generous decks, private pools, and uninterrupted views across the water toward the Masandile River.

Each villa is hosted with discreet personal care, and carries the quiet symbolism of the lodge’s avian heritage, Owl, Hamerkop, and Kingfisher reflecting the different ways animals and birds inhabit the land.

Villa Owl

Effortless Access

2-bedroom villa, accommodates up to 6 guests

Villa Owl is positioned closest to the lodge’s central spaces, connected by a raised, wildlife-safe walkway designed for ease of movement. The villa has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate guests who value accessibility, without drawing attention to it.

Interiors are calm and spacious, with discreet design features that ensure comfort, safety, and independence, which allows all guests to experience the lodge with the same sense of privacy, elegance, and ease.

Villa Hamerkop

Space for Togetherness

2-bedroom villa, accommodates up to 6 guests

Villa Hamerkop is designed for families who value shared time without compromise. Generous interiors and a calm layout allow days to unfold easily, while a dedicated game-viewing vehicle offers flexibility for private safaris shaped around the family’s own rhythm.

Children are welcomed naturally into lodge life, with quiet games, books, and thoughtful activities available within the privacy of the villa. Dining is unhurried and adaptable, and evenings settle into a sense of comfort and rest that feels both familiar and refined.

Villa Kingfisher

Secluded by Design

2-bedroom villa, accommodates up to 6 guests

Set furthest from the lodge’s central spaces, Villa Kingfisher offers a heightened sense of privacy and stillness. Framed by open views and shaded by a mature ebony tree, the villa feels quietly removed. It is ideal for guests seeking space, calm, and uninterrupted time.

Days unfold unobserved, with generous outdoor living, intimate dining under the trees, and a natural sense of retreat. The atmosphere is unhurried and deeply restful, allowing connection to place, to time, and to one another so as to emerge without effort.

Dining & Culinary

Flavour, Quietly Considered.

The culinary approach at Carmine’s River Lodge is shaped by curiosity, seasonality, and restraint. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of traditions and techniques, each dish is guided by balance and clarity, allowing flavour to take precedence over flourish.

Ingredients are handled with care and intention, resulting in plates that feel considered, generous, and expressive, allowing to evolve naturally with the day and the landscape.

Grown close to home, guided by seasons.

Much of the lodge’s fresh produce is cultivated on site, with the remainder sourced locally from the surrounding region. Herbs are grown daily in the greenhouse, where care, patience, and seasonality quietly shape what reaches the table. Guests may spend time here with a member of the team, gaining a simple insight into how flavour begins, in soil, light, and time.

Every plate reflects place, craft, and care.

Menus are shaped by natural, nourishing produce and a respect for flavour in its simplest form. Dishes remain balanced and unforced, allowing ingredients to speak clearly and seasonally. Preferences and individual needs are accommodated quietly and with ease, ensuring each meal feels personal without ever feeling orchestrated.

Baked daily. Unhurried by design.

Bread and pastries are prepared fresh each morning, shaped slowly and baked on site. Simple ingredients, time, and patience guide the process, resulting in loaves and croissants that feel generous, warm, and quietly comforting. It is a rhythm that reflects life at the lodge, which is thoughtful, unforced, and grounded in care.

A cellar shaped by balance and restraint.

The lodge’s wine selection is assembled with the same care as the menu it accompanies. Bottles are chosen for balance, clarity, and their ability to complement the rhythm of each dish rather than compete with it. From familiar classics to quieter discoveries, the cellar reflects depth without excess, which allows wine to enhance the table, not define it.

As the day gives way to evening.

The bar at Carmine’s River Lodge is guided by balance, tradition, and ease. Classic cocktails and understated signatures are prepared with care, allowing the moment to set the tone rather than the pour itself. A considered selection of spirits is included for relaxed enjoyment, while a deeper collection of fine cognacs, whiskies, and rums is available for those who appreciate rarity without display.
